Dave Sutherland is an Army Colonel who retired about six years ago. He commanded the U.S. combat brigade in Diyala Province during the surge, then became an advocate for the troops and their families as a direct report to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This is an excellent, upbeat article and quick read, and it gives you an idea of what those who served believe after the dust has settled and the uniform has been packed away.
