This lady has asked for anonymity, but what I can tell you is that Monday was her birthday. It was a milestone birthday – one of the biggies. But she doesn’t want me to make a big deal out of it.
She has known me and my brothers for our entire lives – the only person on the planet who can say that except maybe my big brother – so when she lays down the law, we listen.
But take a look at that picture. It is the picture of a lady who grabs life by the tail at an age when no one would think less of her if she just wanted to knit a sweater or sit by the window. She is a lady who believes everyone tries to do a good job, and that things will work out in the end. She believes you should do the right thing because it is the right thing to do.
She is a merciless bridge player, and mellow to the core.
She was married to a Sailor for almost five decades, and is the mother of four boys whose only goal in life is to make her proud of them.
If you want to know how life is supposed to be lived, she knows how it’s done.
Happy birthday, Mom.
Oops. I said Mom.
