State Champs

I guess you don’t really know someone until the chips are down and everything is on the line. That’s when you see what a person is made of.

It takes awhile. Or, in the immortal words of Carl the groundskeeper, you’ve “…gotta get inside this guy’s pelt and crawl around for a few days.” (Always quote from Caddyshack when given the opportunity.)

Brent Taylor is the Executive Director of the Wyakin Warrior Foundation, one of the best transitional programs for wounded and injured veterans in the country, but that’s not what I’m writing about.

I am writing about Lacrosse, which is a phrase I never thought I would write.

Today, at about 8pm Mountain Daylight Savings Time, Brent’s high school lacrosse team won the state championship. He coaches as an assistant coach in his spare time at Meridian High School, and in 2016, his first year there, the team went undefeated and justified its number one ranking in the state going into the championship game (national rankings aren’t available yet).

His team finished 15-0, a perfect season.

I have never been to a state championship. It is safe to say that most people never play in one. Brent Taylor, a man who works every day to assist wounded and injured veterans as they strive to reach their goals in life, somehow also found time to coach a team that went to state and won.

You never know someone until everything is on the line.

What an accomplishment. Congratulations to the players and coaches of Meridian High Lacrosse!
