This story was sent to me by Michael, a Navy veteran. The last surviving members of the famous Doolittle Raiders are meeting for the final time this week (marking the 71st anniversary of the raid) at Fort Walton Beach, near Eglin Air Force Base – the same base where they trained before heading out to strike a blow against Japan.
If you are not familiar with the Doolittle raid, you can read all about it here.
Here is a video from USA Today talking about this week’s events.
Here is an AP story that talks about the final reunion. As their business manager says, “The mission ends here in Fort Walton Beach on Saturday night, but their legacy starts then.” (Since WWII, none of the Raiders has profited from their air show demonstrations and reunions. Instead, all money is donated to a scholarship fund named after their famous leader.)
Well done, and thank you.

Nice – I met General Doolittle some years ago at a Change of Command at Fleet Numerical – I was his escort for the day. He was quite a guy !!
