Orders

You know how it is that everyone else seems to get the “sweet” orders? You get a ship in the yards in Portsmouth (not that there’s anything wrong with that) and some other guy gets shore duty in Key West?

I thought that only happened in the military, but noooo-o-o. It happens in the cartoon world too. Five cartoonists just got back from a trip visiting the troops in San Diego and Hawaii…then spent two days on a carrier drawing for the crew. I’m happy for them. Really I am. What they did was important – they let Sailors and Marines know that ordinary joes remember them and appreciate their service. They drew for wounded troops too to put a smile on the faces of those who have sacrificed for the rest of us. And it isn’t their fault that they got to spend time in some beautiful places. Someone has to do it. And I understand that we ALL can’t go to Hawaii.

I understand all that.

But they didn’t have to send me this:
