This is not a day for picnics, although many people will be doing that.
It is not a day for swimming, or hiking, or just hanging out with friends. But a lot of people will be doing that, too.
Today is a day to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. They died protecting their families, friends, and millions of people they would never meet. They died for all of us.
They wore the cloth of the nation in order to preserve our freedom, and to defend our liberties. They died so that we can live in a country where people can go on picnics, swim, hike or just hang out with friends without fear of authoritarian oppression.
So yeah. This is a day for those things too.
Happy Memorial Day. Honor those who died in service to their country.
