I had a similar experience to this. In 1971 I was just out of high school and working as a GS-2 co-op for the (now closed) Navy lab in Annapolis (across the river from the academy). Another co-op and I were sent over to the clinic in Bancroft Hall have eye exams and get prescription safety glasses. I am very near sighted (at the outer limit for commissioning as an Engineering Duty officer several years later) and the other guy was even worse. We were objects of great curiosity since they were used to young men with perfect or near-perfect vision and there were several visitors to the examining room to gawk at us!

There’s nothing like the feeling of being a lab specimen.
